How to set up languages on Look2Guide CMS (Content Tab)
Before creating exhibits, you need to set up the languages (or tours) your audio guide will offer.
Plan Your Languages
Decide which languages or tour versions you want to include. You can have up to 32 languages.
A "language" doesn't have to be a spoken language — think of it as a tour version. For example:
- English Adults and English Children (two separate tours in English)
- Full Tour and Highlights Tour
- General Audience and Special Audience
Each language defines its own set of exhibits. At each exhibit (or point of interest), the language determines which audio message is played for that number.
Go to the Languages Page
- Open your project
- Click the Content tab in the top navigation
- You'll be taken directly to the Languages page
- If you've already created languages, you'll see them listed here
Create a Language from Presets
- Click the Create Language button
- A dialog will appear with a list of preset languages ready to use
- Select one or more languages from the list
- Click Create
Preset languages come with:
- A label (like EN or FR)
- English and Native Names (like French and Fraçias)
- A flag image
- Three default system audio messages:
- 895 — "You are listening to the [language] tour"
- 896 — "Please enter a number to listen to the commentary"
- 897 — "There is no commentary for this number"
Create a Custom Language (Optional)
If you can't find your language in the presets, or you need something custom:
- In the Create Language dialog, select Custom Language at the top of the list
- Click Create
A custom language starts with a blank flag image and empty system messages — you'll fill these in yourself.
Apply Defaults (Optional Shortcut)
For any language (including custom ones), you can apply default files — label, names, flag image, and system messages — by clicking the Use Defaults button.
This gives you a quick starting point. If your custom language has a label matching one of the existing presets (e.g., "FR" for French), the defaults for that preset will be applied.
Fill In Language Details and Save
Edit the following fields:
- Label — A short code (e.g., "EN", "FR") up to 4 characters
- English Name — The language name in English (e.g., "French")
- Native Name — The language name in its own language (e.g., "Français")
- Flag / Image — Upload a flag or icon image
Any field you change will be highlighted in yellow. When you're done:
- Click Save to keep your changes
- Click Cancel Changes to discard them
Delete a Language (If Needed)
- Open the language you want to delete (click Edit)
- Scroll to the bottom of the page
- Click the trash icon
- Confirm the deletion
Warning: This permanently deletes the language and all of its exhibit content. This action cannot be undone.
Reorder Languages (If Needed)
By default, languages are numbered from 951 to 982 in the order they were created. To change the order:
- Click the Reorder button
- Drag and drop languages into your preferred order
- Language numbers will update automatically
Important note about statistics: Each language has an ID used to track usage on devices. When you reorder, these IDs change, which means historical statistics will no longer align with the current language order.
Recommendation: Add new languages instead of reordering existing ones to preserve statistical accuracy.
